- 2.In a large bowl, combine flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Add warm water and mix until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.
- 3.Knead and rise:
- 4.Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5.Shape the vetkoek:
- 6.Punch down the dough and divide into 8–10 equal portions. Shape into balls and place on a floured surface. Cover and let rest for 10–15 minutes.
- 7.Fry the vetkoek:
- 8.Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry dough balls in batches for 3–4 minutes per side until deep golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
